The General Education Program is directed by the Associate Provost.

The Associate Provost chairs the General Education Council, which oversees and implements the curriculum. In 2012-13 academic year, there will be three committees reporting to the General Education Council:

  • A Distribution Committee that reviews and approves HASS and co-curricular course proposals.
  • A Communication Committee that will develop definitions and identify requirements for a Communication Intensive specification, which identifies courses which support the university student learning goal of communication.
  • A Global Learning Committee that will develop definitions and identify requirements for a Global Learning Intensive specification, identifying courses which support the university student learning goal of global literacy.

In addition, a Coordinator of Composition (UN2001/UN1015) is responsible for implementation and assessment of Composition, and a coordinator of World Cultures (UN1002)/Global Issues (UN1025) is responsible for implementation and assessment of World Cultures/Global Issues.

The General Education Council works with the Assessment Council to develop and implement an assessment plan for general education.
