Presidential Search

Search Process

On June 2, 2017, the Michigan Technological University Board of Trustees unanimously appointed members of a Presidential Search Committee. The 14-member committee is charged with identifying and bringing forward for the Board’s consideration the best candidates for the position of president. The Board hired executive search firm Storbeck/Pimentel & Associates to assist the committee with its search.

In launching the search process, the Board of Trustees solicits and welcomes input from all members of the Michigan Tech community regarding the university’s values and priorities, as well as the desired characteristics of the next president of this leading public research institution. In early September, students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and friends of the University will receive an email with instructions on how to access a confidential survey that will give helpful insights to the search committee regarding the qualities sought in a new president.

Consultants from Storbeck/Pimentel & Associates will visit the Michigan Tech campus on September 13 and 14 to conduct an important pre-search study. The search consultants will also facilitate regional town hall meetings in Grand Rapids and Ann Arbor with Michigan Tech alumni and friends of the University. During these forums, the consultants will be seeking input from all constituents about Michigan Tech’s future and our community’s expectations for the next president.

The search committee expects to hold initial interviews with candidates throughout the winter months. The search committee is expected to present semifinalists for the presidency to the Board of Trustees early in the spring semester. The new president will begin at Michigan Tech no sooner than the summer of 2018.

In the coming months, we will provide updates regarding the Michigan Technological University presidential search process.
