Information for New Students
Network connections in the residence halls and student apartments (Daniell Heights) are supported and maintained by Information Technology Services. The service is referred to as the Residential Life Network, or "Resnet." Click here for information on how to get started and how to get support. The service includes free software downloads for critical applications, as discussed on the main Resnet page as well as on the Resnet downloads page.
On-campus computing is supported by distributed computing groups based on academic departments or clustered groups of departments. Your "home" computing lab therefore depends on your major. Click the "Campus IT Units" link on the left navigation bar of this page to find your unit.
Michigan Tech's J. Robert van Pelt Library offers additional IT services to students, including laptop checkout and some new digital media technology.
Important Note: Engineering Undeclared students are supported by the East Engineering Computer Network (EECN). Sciences and Arts Undeclared students are supported by the Center for Computer-Assisted Language Instruction (CCLI).
Non-degree seeking students or post-degree students who wish to access an on-campus laboratory can purchase access from several units on campus, including Chemistry, Forest Resources and Environmental Sciences, Humanities/CCLI, and the School of Business and Economics. Contact these computing units directly for further information.
User support and help for on-campus computing is provided by the system administrators and user support specialists in the distributed units.
Michigan Tech offers cellular telephone service to faculty, students, and staff in partnership with local provider Cellular One. For information, visit the Information Technology Services cellular page.
