Walt Milligan was named Michigan Technological University's first Chief Information Officer on July 1, 2006. Prior to that, Milligan was a research-active faculty member in Materials Science at Michigan Tech for 17 years. He received his PhD in Materials Engineering from Georgia Tech in 1988. In addition to Michigan
Tech, he has held positions at General Electric Aircraft Engines, Carpenter Technology Corporation, NASA-Lewis Research Center, the Nuclear Research Center in Grenoble, France, and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim, Norway. He serves on the Boards of Directors of ABET, Inc. (the accrediting body for Engineering and Technology programs) and the Minerals, Metals and Materials Society.
