UMC Brings Home Honors in District-wide CASE Competition

University Marketing and Communications has earned three Circle of Excellence Awards from District V of CASE, the nation’s leading organization of university advancement and communications professionals.

District V of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education includes Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Wisconsin and Minnesota.

“I’m extremely proud of the entire department,” said Bonnie Gorman, UMC executive director. “From photos and design to web development and editing, virtually everyone in UMC had a hand in at least one of these projects, and these awards are a testiment to the great work they are doing on behalf of the University.”

The efforts leading up to the YES! Expo earned a Gold Award in the Excellence in Special Events, Individual Event category. Staff produced publications and a website and promoted the 2008 YES! Expo, which drew thousands of Detroit area youth to Ford Field last November. UMC staff worked in cooperation with Pete Cattelino, director of YES! Expo and educational programs, to support and publicize the event.

The Registrar’s Office website,,  took a Silver Award in the Best Website, Individual Page of Section category. The site was created by the Web Development and New Media group in collaboration with Registrar’s Office staff.

A Bronze Award was given for “Generations of Discovery: The Campaign for Michigan Tech” in the Best Program in Case Statements/Cultivation Publications. The brochure and DVD were produced by Snavely Associates of State College, Pa., with editing, photographic and organizational support of UMC staff. The program supports fundraising efforts in conjunction with the upcoming capital campaign.
