August 23, 2008—
Michigan Tech will be hosting approximately 300 prospective students on Saturday, Sept. 27, for the annual Campus Open House.
Over 850 visitors are expected, including students and their families, according to Erin Jarvi, campus visit coordinator/regional admissions manager.
"Open House is a great opportunity for potential students to come and see what Michigan Tech has to offer," she said. "Certainly we have great programs, but it's also a chance to introduce students and their families to the community; they always remark upon how helpful and friendly the people are at Michigan Tech, and that’s very gratifying."
President Glenn Mroz will give a welcome address at 9 a.m. in the Rozsa Center. Then the academic departments will provide information on their programs at the Tech Showcase, held from 9:45 a.m. to noon in the Memorial Union.
From noon until 3 p.m., visitors can tour the departments to learn about their facilities and see a variety of exhibits, from "Gummi Bear death" in the Department of Chemistry to a three-movie film showcase sponsored by the Department of Mathematical Sciences.
Students registered to attend will each receive a free T-shirt, and students and their family members will receive a complimentary brunch and passes providing access to the SDC, the Portage Lake Golf Course, and campus entertainment.
