Princeton Review Ranks Michigan Tech Among Top U.S. Universities
September 21, 2007—
Michigan Technological University is one of the best institutions of undergraduate education in the nation, according to the 2008 edition of Best 366 Colleges, a guidebook published annually by the Princeton Review. The Best Colleges book, released today, also lists Michigan Tech among the top 161 Midwestern colleges.
“Michigan Tech will definitely prepare you for your future,” the book’s profile of the University states. “You will get a great education and employers, especially in the Midwest, recognize Michigan Tech as a premier engineering school.”
The Princeton Review rankings are based on surveys of 120,000 college and university students. The goal, says the New York-based education services company that publishes Best Colleges, is to help students and parents decide: “Which is the best college for me?”
The Michigan Tech students surveyed made special note of “great computer facilities.” They also said that “athletic facilities are great; students are friendly; and campus feels safe.”
The most popular majors at Michigan Tech, according to the students surveyed, are civil engineering, mechanical engineering, and electrical and computer engineering. They rated the quality of life 80 out of 100, and academics earned a 74.
Students called Michigan Tech a “virtual paradise for fans of winter sports,” pointing out also that it is strategically located near large bodies of water for fishing, hiking, biking and rock-climbing in the summer.
The Princeton Review evaluates more than 2,000 colleges and universities before choosing the top ones for its Best Colleges book. “We choose schools for this book primarily for their outstanding academics,” said Robert Franek, vice president of publishing for Princeton Review.
In 2005, Princeton Review also ranked Michigan Tech as one of the best undergraduate institutions in the nation, calling it a “tech powerhouse.” Michigan Tech has been included in the Princeton Review rankings since 1994.
