SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory
Syndrome)
What happens after a diagnosis of SARS?
| If you are diagnosed and very ill
with SARS, you will be hospitalized in an isolated area. |
| The Western UP District Health Department
(http://www.wupdhd.org/), Portage
Health Systems (http://www.portagehealth.org/),
and Michigan Tech officials will consult as to the following decisions:
|
|
|
Off-campus students, MTU Apartment
students, and university personnel will be asked to remain at home
until symptoms resolve.
|
|
On-campus students living in the
residence halls, where appropriate infection control precautions cannot
be implemented and maintained, will be assigned to alternative housing
at the MTU Apartments in a guest apartment accommodation until their
symptoms resolve. |
|
If symptoms improve or resolve within
72 hours after first symptom onset, the student/personnel may be allowed,
after consultation with authorities, to return to school or work. |
|
For persons who meet or progress
to meet the case definition for suspected SARS, infection control
precautions should be continued until 10 days after the resolution
of fever, provided respiratory symptoms are absent or improving. |
