<description><![CDATA[<p>Two teams of undergraduate engineering students at Michigan Technological University have developed two low-cost, workable prostheses—one a knee, one a foot—and brought them to India, the first step in an effort to make them available to that nation's many poor.</p><p>Kelsy Ryskamp was on the knee team that traveled to Jaipur and New Delhi to meet orthopedic surgeons over spring break. “They were impressed with our work,” she says. “It’s amazing we had this opportunity, and it’s crazy to think that a group of six students could do something this big—potentially change the way people live in a developing country.”</p><p>As part of . . .]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[<p>Martha Sullivan, the president of Sensata Technologies, will address more than 1,000 graduates during Michigan Technological University’s Spring Commencement.</p><p>The University will honor the achievements of 854 undergraduates and 199 master’s and PhD candidates during ceremonies on Saturday, April 28.</p><p>Sullivan, who earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan Tech in 1983, was named president of Sensata in 2010, in addition to her role as chief operating officer and director of several of the company’s subsidiaries. Previously she was executive vice president and chief operating officer, a position she had held since Sensata was purchased by Texas Instruments in 2006.</p><p>Sullivan joined Texas . . .]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[<p>The American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) has honored Sheryl Sorby with its 2011 Sharon Keillor Award for Women in Engineering Education. Sorby is a professor of mechanical engineering at Michigan Technological University. The national award recognizes women who are making outstanding contributions to engineering education. <br /></p><p>"Sheryl has made significant contributions to engineering education through her research on three-dimensional visualization skills," said Michigan Tech College of Engineering Dean Tim Schulz. "I am pleased to see her receive this well-deserved recognition for her outstanding contributions to engineering education."</p><p>Mechanical Engineering-Engineering Mechanics Chair Bill Predebon also praised Sorby, calling her "an educational innovator, . . .]]></description>
