Here at Michigan Tech you will have an experience like no other. Michigan Tech has about 200 student organizations to get involved with on campus and many opportunities to volunteer in the community. There are different types clubs and organizations to suit the wants and interests of all our students. Michigan Tech also offers great housing geared towards all students needs located on campus. We take your experience and life at Michigan Tech very seriously and hope to fulfill all our students needs.
Michigan Tech is located in the city of Houghton, Michigan. Here you will be able to find a variety of stores, restaurants, and parks. There are many different local shops and delicious restaurants located in the heart of Downtown Houghton. Also, located within 10-15 minutes of Michigan Tech's campus are Portage Health's healthcare facilities.
From kayaking on the Portage Canal to skiing at Mont Ripley, Michigan Tech has it all for all your recreational needs during all four seasons. Here at Tech we have the gorgeous Tech Trails that are perfect for running, biking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. If it's water sports you like, then you might enjoy kayaking on Lake Superior or sailing on the Portage. There are many indoor and outdoor activities to do here in Houghton and we are full of new adventures to be had.
The Student Development Complex, located up the hill on McInnes Drive, is great place to get a great workout and partake in some fun indoor activities. The SDC has a large-sized pool, a gym, racquetball courts, basketball courts, a rock climbing wall, and much more. Located within the SDC is the John McInnes Student Ice Arena which is home of the Michigan Tech Huskies Hockey Team. So stop by for a skate or come cheer on the Michigan Tech Huskies!
As a student of Michigan Tech, a $65 Experience Tech fee is added to your tuition bill which gives you access to the Gates Tennis Center, Portage Lake Golf Course, Tech Trails, various sporting events, Mont Ripley lift tickets, free intramural sports, and discounted prices to perform arts events. The Experience Tech Initiative is great way to take advantage of all the recreational activities that Michigan Tech has to offer for little to no cost per semester.
Michigan Tech offers a variety of housing options such as our residence halls, the Hillside Place Apartments, and the Daniel Heights Apartments. All of our housing is located within a short distance from campus. We have three residence halls, Douglass Houghton Hall, Wadsworth Hall, and McNair Hall. The residence halls are a great way to get involved, network, and build a bond with other students on campus. We also have our Michigan Tech Apartments which consist of the Hillside Place and Daniel Heights. The Hillside Place apartments are our new and modern styled apartments that are geared more towards upperclassman, transfer students, and graduate students. The Daniel Heights apartments offer one and two-bedroom units that are focused on housing our graduate students, students with families, and students older than 21. Rent for all of our student housing includes utilities and are fully furnished.
If you are looking to live off campus, there are many cost-effective options available near campus. There are lots houses and apartments that are available to rent right here in the Houghton-Hancock area. You can look online on BarkBoard, check public bulletin boards on and off campus, or contact the various landlords around town. Most available off-campus housing are just a short walk away from campus.

Preschool and Childcare
Michigan Tech has the Little Huskies Childcare Development Center available with priority to children that are of Michigan Tech Students. The Little Huskies Childcare Development Center is available to enroll your children, ages 0-6, into full-time and part-time infant, toddler, and preschool childcare programs. They are currently open to accepting applications for enrollment.
