Challenging Placement
Online Placement Test
Students may challenge initial math placement by taking the math online placement test. By taking this test, students waive the initial placements based on the ACT or SAT score and will be placed according to the test results.

Testing Windows
The online placement test is offered twice in the spring, usually in March and June. Students receive an email from Michigan Tech informing them of the testing dates, so they can plan to take the test during one of the testing windows.
Students who experience technical problems with the online test must contact the first-year program director during the spring testing window. Provision may be granted to take the test during Orientation.
Late Enrollment
The online math placement test is offered during Orientation in August only for those students who enrolled at Michigan Tech after mid-May and want to challenge their initial math placement.
