Norman O. Kates

Norman O. Kates (BS MTU MY 1942). Norm began his career at Accurate Steel Treating Inc. in 1942, continuing at Griffin Wheel company as a Naval Officer from 1944-46. He began his 36-year career with Lindberg Corporation in 1947, retiring in 1983 as the vice president of technology and director of the Technology Center.

Norman received the American Society for Metals William Hunt Eisenman Award in 1986 for outstanding contributions and devotion to the development, advancement, and dissemination of information on heat treating technology on a world-wide basis. He was awarded the Michigan Tech Board of Control Silver Medal in 1977.

Norman Kates was inducted into the Academy of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at Michigan Tech in 1998. Norman passed away in 2002.
