Mission, Vision, and Goals
In 2008, the Van Pelt Library and John and Ruanne Opie Library engaged in strategic planning and developed a new mission, vision, and goals to support the mission and vision of Michigan Tech. They are reviewed annually and strategic actions are set to meet our goals. We welcome your comments at library@mtu.edu.
Mission
The Library creates a dynamic information environment that fosters:
- Learning,
- Discovery, and
- Innovation
Vision
The Library will be the first and best place that:
- Connects users to information and related services,
- Promotes information literacy and ethical use, and
- Builds a learning community through engaging opportunities for interaction
Goals
- Ensure the library space is inviting, adaptable, and configured to enhance learning, research, and collegial interaction
- Provide outstanding services and tools that support learning, discovery, and innovation
- Develop and maintain high quality collections with an emphasis on digital content and timely access to information resources
- Partner with academic programs and support units to enhance teaching and research
- Offer lively programming to stimulate thought and creativity
