Guides to Government Information at Your Library
The following is a list of guides to materials online, as well as in the MTU Library, about frequently researched subjects. If you have any questions about materials or resources please ask a Reference Librarian. We are here to help!
The U.S. Congressional Serial Set, or Serial Set, is a compilation of all congressional publications except for hearings and debates. The Serial Set consists of the following types of publications: House Documents and Reports, Senate Documents, Reports, Treaty Documents and Senate Executive Reports. Prior to the 1900s many annual reports from executive departments like the USGS and US Army were also published in the Serial Set as well as numerous Geological Expeditions.
Your library has access to multiple online weather data collections including hourly precipitation data, world wide climatological publications and more. Within the library our collection contains publications ranging from historical Michigan weather data going back to 1902 as well as an assortment of National Weather Service publications.
The library’s map collection houses 7.5 and 15 minute maps of most of the United States, geological and hydrologic maps, Great Lakes Navigational Charts, National Forest Maps, National Parks Service Maps and a varied collection of historical maps. The majority of our collection focuses on Michigan and the Great Lakes Basin.
During the late spring and early winter you can get paper tax forms from the library. Reproducible federal tax forms for the past five years are also kept in the garden level. If you need any contact information for Federal or State taxes you can find it on our Income Tax Information page!
