Logging On: HuskyMail & Husky Hub
When you were admitted to Michigan Tech, you were issued a Michigan Tech email account and web portal (Michigan Tech Husky Hub).
Your Michigan Tech email is called HuskyMail. To access your email, log onto your Michigan Tech Husky Hub and go to Communicate. If you use your Michigan Tech Husky Hub or HuskyMail, you will need your username and ISO password. Check your Michigan Tech email regularly and always include your full name and your Michigan Tech student ID number on all messages and correspondence.
Computers
Since you have access to a computer lab that meets all your computing needs, having a personal computer is not necessary; however, if you are interested in having your own computer, here are some things to consider:
- Desktops allow you to work comfortably from your residence hall room or apartment.
- Desktops are generally less expensive than laptops.
- Laptops are versatile if you would like to get away from your room to work, and they take up less space.
If you do plan to purchase a new computer, consult Telecommunications Services for computer specifications to ensure that your machine is properly equipped for Resnet, the on-campus internet service.

Telephones
The University provides analog telephone services to Residence Halls students, which is included in your room and board costs. The University also provides analog telephone services to tenants of Daniell Heights (installation and monthly fees apply). Although students must provide their own telephone, you will not incur any usage fees other than for international long distance calls. Voicemail is also available at no charge.
Domestic long distance calls are free to anyone living in university housing. Canada and some island nations are included. Any number that uses the North American number plan, i.e. xxx-xxx-xxxx, will be a free call. Calls that require the international access code of ‘011’ will require a calling card. Daniell Heights’ residence must sign up for telephone service to take advantage of the free domestic calling.
For long distance calling, there are numerous calling card options available online. If you have a calling card, there are pay phones in most of the department buildings and in the Memorial Union Building (MUB) that you can use to call home.
