International Student Ski Day—Mont Ripley Ski Hill

Saturday, February 21, 2009

All international students and their family, I Club and I House members are invited to the International Student Ski Day at Mont Ripley. Equipment rental and ski instructions will be offered at a discounted price. Snacks and hot tea will be provided in a private warming room that has a fireplace (very nice). Hot chocolate, soup, hamburgers, hotdogs, etc. can be purchased at the main lodge.

Mont Ripley offers high-quality instruction for skiers and snowboarders of all abilities. Lessons are important. They teach safety techniques that make skiing and snowboarding more fun! Lessons will be taught at 11:00 am or 1:00 pm.

Lesson and equipment rental fees are per person:

  • $10 for skis or snowboard rental (includes boots and poles)
  • $5 for ski lesson
  • $10 for lift ticket (non-Michigan Tech student)
Note: lift tickets are FREE for Michigan Tech students

Students may sign up at the IPS Office until 4:00pm, Thursday, February 19. The $10 per person equipment rental fee must be paid at IPS and is non-refundable after February 19. The lesson fee and/or lift ticket fee (non-Michigan Tech students) must be paid at Mont Ripley on the day of the event. The following information must be included for each person you register:

  • first and last name
  • age (if under 18)
  • desired ski lesson time (11:00 am or 1:00 pm)
  • skiing ability (first time, beginner or experienced)
  • shoe size (U.S. measurement)
  • height (U.S. measurement)

Need a ride? Check with your international student organization, or call the Houghton Transit at 482-6092, or Neil’s Taxi at 482-5515. Note: the cost for a taxi ride from campus to Mont Ripley is only $6, and this can be divided among everyone in the taxi.

NOTE: the ski hill will be open to the general public on February 21, and rental reservations are not guaranteed. Please arrive early so you have the best chance to get what you need.

If you have questions, please e-mail Bob Wenc at rjwenc@mtu.edu, or call 487-2160. We hope you will get outdoors and have fun in the snow!
