Intensive English as a Second Language Courses
IESL Placement Test
Upon initial enrollment and at the end of every semester's evaluation process thereafter, students are placed in the appropriate level of courses. Initial placement testing includes listening, reading comprehension, grammar, and vocabulary. A short interview may be conducted to test speaking fluency.
Students are registered for IESL courses through the Office of Student Records and Registration and the Humanities Department.
Class sizes are small. They vary depending on the level—some classes have as little as six students. The maximum class size for IESL is 15, and that is usually at the Advanced and Transitional levels. Transitional level students may take one or more academic classes. Advising for these courses is provided by both the IESL program and the academic department’s advisor.
IESL Courses
The IESL program offers a number of English language courses that range from intermediate to academic support.
