Michigan Tech provides insurance benefits pertaining to medical plans and dental and vision plans, flexible spending accounts, life, disability, and accidental death and dismemberment. New employees select their choices during New Hire Benefit Orientation. The benefit plan year is January 1 through December 31. Each November the University sponsors an open enrollment period, which allows employees to make changes in existing coverage using Banweb.
Michigan Tech provides two medical insurance choices: HuskyCare PPO and HuskyCare High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP).
Dental and Vision Plans
Michigan Tech offers two optional dental plans HuskyCare Dental 1 and HuskyCare Dental 2 as well as a vision plan.
Life, Disability, and Accidental Death/Dismemberment (AD&D) Plans
Basic Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance is provided by Met Life with the option to purchase additional insurance for the employee and dependents. Short-Term and Long-Term Disability Insurance is also included in the employee benefit package.
Designated Eligible Individual
A Michigan Tech employee who does not already enroll a spouse for the health plans may enroll one Designated Eligible Individual (DEI) meeting all of the criteria. Enrollment of the DEI must be completed during the regular TechSelect open-enrollment period or no more than 30 days after all criteria are met.
Student Health Insurance
The University offers a health insurance policy option for all students attending Michigan Tech. For some students, including graduate and international students, health insurance is required. This plan, provided by Aetna, is one option for meeting that requirement if you do not already have a comparable plan.
