Daniell Heights Living Guide

Parking

Registration

All new, transfer, and returning residents of Daniell Heights should register their vehicles online. A parking permit will be issued for each vehicle. Residents who do not register online should contact Transportation Services upon arrival to arrange for a permit. Properly registered vehicles have a lot assignment which tells you where to park. You must obtain a permit for your vehicle within forty-eight hours of its arrival on campus. Family members and cotenants with vehicles will also need to obtain parking permits.

You should park in your assigned block only. Violators will be ticketed and/or towed. Parking is not permitted on the North side of Woodmar Drive, on the lawns, or on the sidewalks at any time. Improperly or illegally parked vehicles may be ticketed, towed, and/or impounded at the owner’s expense.

The staff lots prohibit the parking of resident vehicles between 2:00AM and 5:00PM seven days per week. Resident parking lots are restricted to assigned parking only, at all times, seven days per week. All residents with motor vehicles must become familiar with all traffic regulations and parking requirements. For more information about parking and for a list of parking regulations, please see Transportation Services. To view campus parking areas, please see the interactive campus map located at http://www.mtu.edu/maps/.

Guest Parking

Prior to a guest(s) arriving, obtain a Visitor Parking Permit from Transportation Services and hang it on the visitor’s rear-view mirror when the visitor arrives. Failure to register for visitor parking will result in a ticket and/or towing. Daniell Heights visitor parking spaces are available in the following locations.

In the Lower Heights, visitors may park in the lot at the east end of the 1900 block, downhill from the S-curve leading to the Upper Heights, and at the end of the 1800 block.

The Upper Heights has four marked visitor parking areas near buildings 2001, 2011, 2107, and 2108.

If the Daniell Heights visitor spaces are full, visitors may park in lot 26.

Snowmobiles, ATVs, and Other Vehicles

Snowmobiles, off-road vehicles, and other recreational vehicles are not permitted to be operated in Daniell Heights, and such vehicles must be stored on registered trailers. Violators may be ticketed, fined, and have their vehicles impounded and stored at their expense. Trailers must be stored in designated areas after being registered with Transportation Services and tagged for identification.

Motorcycles

If they can both be parked without creating a hazard, motorcycles may be parked on the street in front of your car. You may store your motorcycle in the bicycle shelters from November 1 to April 30.

Bicycles

You may store a bicycle in one of the shelters next to buildings 1805, 1909, 2005, 2013, 2105, 2109, and 2110. If you live in the Lower Heights, you may chain your bike to the railing outside your apartment door.

Speed Limits and Stop Signs

The 15 mph speed limit on Woodmar Drive is to protect the residents of Daniell Heights. Pedestrian crosswalks and yield signs offer everyone a safe way to cross the street. Please report unsafe drivers to Transportation Services and DPSPS.

Vehicle Repairs

Residents are not permitted to perform major repairs on their vehicles in Daniell Heights. Vehicles left on jacks or blocks are dangerous. Besides being unsightly, jugs and pans of chemicals or piles of auto parts create a health and safety risk for our residents, especially children.
