Hints For Cooperative Living
In Daniell Heights, you and your neighbors work together to keep your building safe, clean, and comfortable. Cooperative living requires small sacrifices on your part; however, when everyone works together, everyone’s needs are met. The first step is to get to know your neighbors.
Respect each other.
- Be considerate while others are sleeping, studying, or relaxing.
- Do not infringe on other people’s space and do not use their things without their permission.
- Take the time to get to know one another and be friendly.
- Listen to each other.
- Learn to appreciate your differences.
- Be responsible for your visitor’s behavior.
Keep our community clean.
- Pick up trash in common areas, stairwells, parking lots, and on lawns.
- Dispose of trash appropriately. Do not leave trash in front of dumpsters.
- Use the repair form on the housing website to report broken or damaged items.
- Help to ensure the safety and security of the community.
- Report all strangers who act suspiciously.
- Keep all screens in the windows.
- Lock your doors when your are sleeping or out of the apartment.
- Watch for children while driving and do not leave objects that may cause harm near the common areas.
- Report anything that could cause injury.
- Supervise children at all times.
- Follow the 15 mph speed limit and stop at all stop signs.
Respect courtesy quiet hours.
- Sunday–Thursday from 10:00PM to 9:00AM the following day.
- Friday–Saturday from 11:00PM to 10:00AM the following day.
- Keep noise level reasonable twenty-four hours per day.
- All doors should be closed to contain the sound.
- Talk with your neighbor if their noise is bothersome.
- Be respectful of your neighbors’ requests to limit your noise.
- TVs, stereos, and voices should not be heard by your neighbors during courtesy hours.
- Accept necessary noise (i.e., walking) as part of living in an apartment setting.
Deal with conflicts and problems appropriately.
- Talk to the person you are having a problem with first.
- Talk with your CA (community assistant) if you are unsure how to handle a situation, or call Public Safety or Police Services if it becomes necessary.
- Bring community issues to the community assistant’s attention as they arise.
- No one should be harassed, threatened, or abused.
Communicate with each other.
- Talk to each other directly.
- Discuss thoughts, ideas, and issues.
Get involved through Apartments Residents Council (ARC) to facilitate better communication and enhance the community.
