Enhance your computer skills by joining the Computer Science Learning Community (CSLC). The Computer Science Learning Community brings together students, staff and faculty who share a passion for computers and computer related technologies. However, the CSLC is not limited exclusively to Computer Science majors, but is open to anyone who is interested in computers or related technology. Students who participate in the CSLC community will have common classes, share ideas, and have fun with like-minded friends. The Residence Life staff ensure that you will learn your way around campus, get involved in campus activities, make friends, and get help with academic challenges. The CSLC is located on the third floor of East McNair Hall.
As a participant in the CSLC, you will have the opportunity to be involved in numerous social and educational activities:
Social Opportunities
- Safe House, the Residence Hall Halloween Haunted/Fun House. The 2008 theme for the hall was “The Adventures of Dr. Seuss”
- Michigan Tech’s annual Winter Carnival activities include competitions in snow sculpture, ice bowling, snow volleyball, broomball, snowshoe racing, human dogsled, snowboarding, skiing, curling, and others
- Numerous weekly and monthly programs and opportunities. Some past activities have included cookouts, LAN parties, decorating an “Electronic” Christmas tree, campus events, card games, tabletop role playing games, and an annual team challenge course.
- Campus Fine Arts events such as concerts, theater productions, and comedians.
Educational Opportunities
- Enroll in the “Creating Your Success” class. This is a one-credit course designed to help first-year students become acclimated to university life.
- CSLC formed study groups to help with classes and exam preparation.
- Collaborate with and learn from upper classmen.
- Talk with your CSLC staff and complete an academic plan.

What is expected of CSLC members?
- Be a positive member of your residence hall community.
- Participate in community and campus events.
- Complete the requirements of your Learning Community Agreement.
- Pay a $30.00 per semester fee that is used to support additional community programming and activities.
To join the Computer Science Learning Community, simply apply via your housing application. The current CSLC Community Agreement is also available to view or download.
