Take a Break - Spring 2024

Stay for Break Form

Spring Break is just around the corner, along with some time to rest and recharge from the busy semester! Spring Break in the residence halls runs Friday, February 23 at 6 pm through Sunday, March 3 at 10 am.

Planning to stay for any part of break? No problem! Please complete the Request To Stay for Break form no later than Wednesday, February 21 to maintain residence hall access. There is no charge to stay, however Dining will be closed and services will be limited. 

Starting Saturday, February 24, staff will conduct room checks and address maintenance concerns over break.

Please keep your Husky Card with you at all times. Doors will be locked during the break and you must have your card to enter your building. Your card will not give you access to buildings that you do not normally have tap card access to.

Spring Break Departure Checklist

All students must ensure their rooms are prepared before leaving for Spring Break and should follow these procedures listed below. Although electricity will NOT be turned off in resident rooms, energy conservation will be in effect during the break period. Staff will be entering all residence hall rooms to make sure windows are closed and conduct maintenance. If you are leaving campus during the break, please ensure you complete the following:

  • Remove all recycling, trash, and food that will spoil from your room and place in a sealed bag before moving to the trash container in your hall. 
  • Please do not leave food in the common shared kitchenettes.  Kitchenettes will be cleaned.  Unlabeled and undated food that is not actively being used by residents staying for break will be discarded. The kitchenettes will be available for use by students who are staying for the break, but they will be cleaned.
  • Turn the heat on in your room to prevent pipes from freezing. 
  • Unplug all electrical items except refrigerators. 
  • Close and lock your window. Leave your blinds open. 
  • Turn off your lights and lock your room door.
  • Set up automatic feeders for your fish or plants.

Dining Hours Before The Break 

On-Campus Dining during spring break

Residence Hall Dining Services are closed during the break. The hours of operation for each dining hall are as follows: 

  • The Food Hall at Wadsworth closes on Friday, February 23 at 6 pm and reopens on Sunday, March 3 at 11 am
  • The Eatery at McNair closes on Friday, February 23 at 1:30 pm and will reopen on Monday, March 4 
  • The Food Hall at DHH will be closed Friday, February 23  and will reopen Monday, March 4 at 7 am
  • The Campus café will be closed Friday, February 23 and reopens on Sunday, March 3

The Husky Food Access Network (FAN) operating hours during the break are dependent on volunteer availability and can be viewed on the Husky FAN Google Calendar (busy = open). For additional information, please visit the Husky FAN website or reach out via email at huskyfan@mtu.edu. Public Safety and Police Services is available 24/7 and can provide emergency meal packets as necessary. For additional food assistance programs in the area, please visit the Feeding America website.

For unexpected emergencies, Huskies can apply for emergency assistance funds. The funds are designated for students who are experiencing a financial emergency due to unforeseen circumstances. Applicants must meet the eligibility requirements and complete the request form, which can be found on the Emergency Resources page.

Residence Hall Front Desk Hours

The reception desks will be closed Saturday, February 24 at 12 pm through Saturday, March 2.

Mail/package services will be unavailable during the break.

Normal operating hours will resume on Sunday, March 3. Packages and mail will not be sorted, and staff will not be available to search for individual letters or packages that arrive during the break. Packages that arrived on or before Saturday, February 24 that have not yet been picked up will also not be available to pick up until Sunday, March 3.

Items will be stored until after March 3 when staff return to deliver the mail and packages. Package notifications will be paused during the break and will resume when staff return.

Parking During Break

If you are leaving your vehicle on campus during break, you must park it in Lot 26A Commuter Lot via Garnet Street. Vehicles must be moved during the following time frame:

  • Move to lot 26A: By Sunday, February 25 at 10 pm, students must move their vehicles to Lot 26A. Students leaving prior to this time, OR who are remaining on campus and need regular access to their vehicle, must contact the Transportation Services Office to request alternate parking accommodations. If Lot 26A is full, you may park in Lower Lot 21 closest to the guardrail of Lot 26A. 
  • Move back to Assigned Lot: By Sunday, March 3 at 10 pm, students must move their vehicles back to their assigned lot. Vehicles not moved back to their assigned lot by this time will be cited.
