Executive Committee

The mission of the Great Lakes Research Center (GLRC) is to be a leader in interdisciplinary aquatic science and engineering, focused on the Laurentian Great Lakes Basin in its entirety through excellence in research, education, and outreach.

To achieve these goals, the Executive Committee supports efforts to

  • promote development of new research efforts at Michigan Tech;
  • make breakthroughs in understanding how natural systems and human dynamics interact;
  • stimulate education and interdisciplinary research on aquatic systems;
  • increase the visibility of Michigan Tech’s Great Lakes and aquatic systems research and provide a focus for related fundraising;
  • provide resources to invite leading experts to Michigan Tech for extended visits to stimulate collaboration; and
  • provide a visible point of contact for partners outside the University.

The Executive Committee is composed of four elected members and one member appointed as Director of GLRC Operations by the Vice President for Research. The four elected members represent the four primary focus areas of the institute: Aquatic Ecology and Ecosystem Dynamics, Aquatic Resources and Human Dimensions, Marine Engineering and Technology, and Education and Outreach. Members are appointed for one-, two-, or three-year terms to provide a staggered rotation of members.
