GFC Recommendations—Emeritus Graduate Faculty Appointments

Current policy with regard to appointment of graduate faculty requires annual reappointment of emeritus graduate faculty:

The dean of the Graduate School may also grant adjunct graduate faculty status to Emeritus or retired faculty, to MTU faculty holding a rank with a prefix of part-time or visiting, and to Adjunct faculty (approved through Human Resources) whose primary appointment is not at MTU. These appointments are for one year and must be reviewed on an annual basis.

The GFC recommends changing the requirement for annual renewal:

The dean of the Graduate School may also grant Emeritus Graduate Faculty status to Emeritus or retired faculty; appointments remain in effect until the faculty member and the department chair determine that the appointment is no longer needed.

The dean of the Graduate School may also grant Adjunct Graduate Faculty status to MTU faculty holding a rank with a prefix of part-time or visiting, and to Adjunct faculty (approved through Human Resources) whose primary appointment is not at MTU. These appointments are for one year and must be reviewed on an annual basis.
