Each year, the Graduate School will award three Recruiting Fellowships of $2,000 each to help attract outstanding PhD candidates to Michigan Tech. These fellowships are available due to the generosity of the Class of 1950. Preference will be given to students who have the greatest potential to contribute to the goals of The Michigan Tech Plan. This fellowship must supplement support from another source, such as a GTA or GRA appointment.
Application Procedures
Nomination
Nominations will be due February 20, 2009, by 4 p.m.
An announcement will be published in Tech Today mid-spring semester to solicit for nominations for Recruiting Fellowships. An email announcement will also be sent to graduate program staff. PhD students entering in summer or fall are eligible to be nominated.
The nominating graduate program must complete a nomination form.
The nomination will also include:
- The nominee's application to Michigan Tech.
- A letter of support from the graduate program. The letter should address the potential of the student to impact The Michigan Tech Plan and the support offered to the student.
Each graduate program may nominate up to two students.
Evaluation
The applications will be evaluated by a panel of faculty representing each of Michigan Tech's colleges and schools. Applications will be evaluated on:
- The potential for the student to impact The Michigan Tech Plan now and in the future.
- The strength of the nominee's previous academic and research accomplishments.
Notification
Each graduate program will be notified of their nominee's status in the competition. Recipients will be asked to write a thank-you note to the sponsor of their fellowship and have their picture taken for inclusion on the Graduate School's web page or other press releases. Students may request to be excluded from inclusion on the web page or other press releases.
