- BS Geological Engineering 1974
Tom entered Michigan Tech in the fall of 1974 and graduated with a
Bachelor of Science degree in Geological Engineering in May 1978. He
was recruited by Shell Oil Company in New Orleans and had
assignments in both engineering and geology. In 1981, he joined Petro-
Lewis where he held positions of increasing responsibility in both
geology and petroleum engineering. From 1984 to 1993, he pursued
opportunities with smaller independent oil companies, including
Berexco and Hillin-Simon Oil Company, spending time in Oklahoma City,
Dallas and Midland, Texas.
In 1993, Tom joined Apache Corporation in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He
progressed through staff roles in both engineering and geology until
being appointed Region Exploration Manager in 2004 and Region Vice
President in 2006. He then became Region Vice President and General
Manager of Apache Egypt Companies, Apache’s largest business unit,
living in Cairo from 2009-2013. In 2013, Tom was promoted to
Executive Vice President - International in Houston and in January,
2014 took on the role of Chief Operating Officer - International,
responsible for all exploration and production activities outside of
North America onshore, which included Australia, Argentina, Egypt, the
UK North Sea, Suriname and the Gulf of Mexico.
Tom also completed the Executive Program at the Stanford Graduate
School of Business in 2012.
He has served on the board of directors of OIPA (Oklahoma Independent
Producers Association), American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt, and
Community Services Association of Cairo. Tom is a member of AAPG, a
Certified Petroleum Geologist and a Registered Professional Engineer
(retired) in the state of Oklahoma.
Tom and his wife Kym currently reside in Houston.
