9.8 Cultural Activities

9.8.1 Department of Visual and Performing Arts

The Department of Visual and Performing Arts offers opportunities for Michigan Tech faculty members and their families to participate actively in music, theatre, and the visual arts, and to enjoy an annual season of concerts, plays, art exhibits and workshops. Michigan Tech's high-quality programs in the arts fill an essential role both in our community's life and in educating Michigan Tech students. In addition to student-only music and theatre ensembles, Visual and Performing Arts faculty direct groups and events which bring together students, faculty, staff and community in a variety of creative activities. Auditions are required for some (not all) activities, which include four major theatre productions each year, the Keweenaw Symphony Orchestra; the Michigan Technological Concert Choir; and the studio arts programs in drawing, painting, ceramics, and sculpture.
