6.1 Insurance

6.1.1 Annual Benefits Open Enrollment

Michigan Tech's comprehensive benefits program, includes medical, dental/vision, life, dependent life, retirement, long-term disability, short-term disability and accidental death and dismemberment insurance for benefit eligible employees and their families (see Eligible Benefits Chart). Michigan Tech also offers flexible spending accounts for health and dependent care, as well as a Health Savings Account (HSA).

Eligible regular employees participate in the benefits program. Employees are provided an opportunity annually to review their benefits package during open enrollment. Employees must notify the Benefits Office within 30 days of any mid-year family status changes.

2/7/2018 - Annual Review: to reflect current language: changed title of the section from "TechSelect" to "Annual Benefits Open Enrollment." Added "retirement" to the list of benefits. Removed the "Eligibility" statement "EligibilityTo be eligible for full benefits, regular employees must be a full-time equivalent of .75 or greater. Fixed-term employees receive limited benefits (see Eligible Benefits Chart)."
02/22/2017 - Annual Review: to reflect current language: added "benefit eligible" to "insurance for benefit eligible employees". Added "as well as a Health Savings Account (HSA)." to "...dependent care, as well as a Health Savings Account (HSA)."

01/28/2015 - Annual Review: To reflect current practice, the email address for questions is now policy@mtu.edu. No changes made to content.
02/13/2014 - Annual Review: Updated Michigan Tech and Handbook banners. In the second paragraph, the following sentences were revised: "You are provided an opportunity annually to review your benefits package" now reads: "Employees are provided an opportunity annually to review their benefits package during open enrollment." The sentence: "It is your responsibility to update or change your package as desired each year during the enrollment period" has been deleted. The sentence: "In addition, you must notify the Benefits Office within 30 days of any family status changes" now reads: "Employees must notify the Benefits Office within 30 days of any mid-year family status changes."
03/20/2013 - Annual Review: The first sentence read "...includes medical, dental/vision, life..."and it now reads "...includes medical, dental, vision, life..."
06/13/2012 - Included "short-term disability" in the first sentence of the first paragraph.
05/04/2011 - Annual Review: The sentence "In addition, you must notify the Manager of Benefits within 30 days of any family status changes" and to reflect current University titles and practice, MTU is now Michigan Tech and the email address for questions is now hb webmaster.
