  1. Parking Meter Violations
    1. 1-4 violations ($10)
    2. 5-9 violations ($15)
    3. 10+ violations ($20)
  2. Unauthorized Lots
    1. 1-4 occurrences ($25)
    2. 5+ occurrences ($50)
  3. Service Vehicle Spaces
    1. 1-3 occurrences ($25)
    2. 4+ occurrences ($50)

Payment of Fines

Payment of Fines

  1. Parking violations must be paid online or at the Student Services Center within ten (10) business days of issuance (not including holidays or weekends).  Parking privileges will be suspended after a violation becomes 45 days past due.  After a period of 60 days, unpaid fines may be sent to a collection agency.
  2. The University reserves the right to restrict registration and withhold diplomas or transcripts if fines are not paid.

Violations Appeals Process

  1. The first step of the violation appeals process requires the submission of the Contested Violation Form to Transportation Services within 10 days of violation date.  You may complete this form online.  (https://mtuparking.t2hosted.com
  2. If this appeal is denied by the issuing officer, it can be submitted to the Appeals Committee.  If the Appeals Committee denies the appeal, it can be sent to the 97th District Court in Houghton.  There is a $20 administrative fee for all violations upheld by the Appeals Committee. General questions regarding specific parking violations should be directed to Transportation Services.

The following ARE NOT valid reasons to appeal a violation:

  1. Lack of legal parking
  2. Lack of convenient parking
  3. Time constraints, running late
  4. Lack of knowledge of the regulation(s)
  5. Never received the ticket(s) on vehicle
  6. Parking for “just a couple minutes”
  7. Failure to obtain a temporary permit
  8. Did not see the parking sign
  9. Someone else parked the car
  10. Affiliated with Michigan Technological University (student, faculty/staff), but on campus as a visitor
  11. Parked at the meter to avoid buying a permit

  1. The University reserves the right to tow any vehicle that conducts multiple parking violations.  Vehicles may also be towed if they interfere with the ability of snow removal during the winter months.
