Discriminatory Harassment–Discriminatory Treatment Complaint Procedures

If a person feels that his or her treatment has been unfairly discriminatory, he or she is encouraged to file a complaint. The following procedures are intended to be used in any case of alleged harassment and/or discriminatory actions on the basis of a person’s race, religion, color, national origin, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, height, weight, genetic information, or marital status, veteran status, disability, etc. Violations of state and federal law and the policies could lead to discipline and possible dismissal.

All complaints are given serious consideration. Informal resolutions should be explored first. The informal process serves to formulate appropriate resolutions at the most local level. Formal treatment may be specifically requested by either party or the Institutional Equity Office in a written notice at any time.

Complaint Involving Students

 Allegations of discrimination or policy violation involving only student to student interactions will be referred to the Michigan Tech Dean of Student’s Office. The person responsible for handling the complaint is the Dean of Students, Bonnie B. Gorman, Ph.D.
