IMPORTANT NOTE TO ALL ENTERPRISE AND SENIOR DESIGN TEAMS

Please read the following instructions carefully before registering.

Sponsor considerations for Design Expo project abstracts, posters, and presentations:

Many of your Enterprise and Senior Design projects are sponsored by or involve input from external/industry partners. These projects often include confidentiality and/or formal project agreements (sometimes referred to as ‘contracts’). It is recommended that any teams working on such projects review these agreements with their faculty advisor and sponsor before registering for the Design Expo. Affected Enterprise and Senior Design teams need to consider the following when preparing project abstracts, posters, and presentations for Design Expo:

  1. Confidential or proprietary information: teams often receive such information from their sponsors. This information must NOT be included in any of your Design Expo materials. If you are in doubt as to whether your materials contain confidential or proprietary information provided by your sponsor, please have your faculty advisor and sponsor review the materials before submission or presentation.
  2. Sponsor name use: projects conducted under formal project agreements include name use restrictions. These restrictions allow teams to reference the project title and the sponsor’s name in Design Expo materials, however, written approval of the sponsoring company is required for any formal publicity, advertising, and new release activities. While participation in Design Expo itself is not considered one of these activities, many sponsors view the Design Expo as a publicity activity. To maintain good-will with your sponsors, it is recommended that you provide drafts of your Design Expo abstract, poster, and presentation to your sponsor for review and approval.
  3. Publication: projects conducted under a formal project agreement generally include a publication clause that allows Michigan Tech student teams to present the project title and scope of work for academic purposes including the Design Expo. However, some sponsors have negotiated a review period that teams must honor. Please review the specific terms of your project agreement to make sure your team complies with all contractual obligations to your sponsor.

POSTERS
Each team displays a poster at Design Expo and will be assigned to either a morning or afternoon poster judging time frame. A team member is strongly encouraged to be at your poster as much as possible during your assigned judging time to answer questions regarding your display.

Poster Criteria

  1. Teams are responsible for providing their own poster
  2. Posters should be free standing
  3. Teams will be provided with a 3′ X 6′ table on which to display relevant materials
  4. Posters should include at a minimum the following information:
    – Title
    – Team’s name and department
    – Enterprise team overview
    – Introduction
    – Business objectives
    – Project results (should be presented using graphs, tables, figures, photographs, and a minimum amount of text)
    – Conclusions
    – Acknowledgments
  5. Senior Design teams should note that their academic departments may define other required components of the posters

ENTERPRISE

Enterprise presentations will take place on Thursday, April 13 during Design Expo, in a location to be determined. The Enterprise Presentation Schedule will be available for review here in early April 2017.

A laptop, screen and projector will be provided in each presentation room. All team members must be in their scheduled presentation room 5 minutes prior to the start of the session to allow time to install all team presentations onto the laptop provided. Enterprise presentation sessions (15 minutes per team) will be scheduled in the morning and afternoon throughout the day of Design Expo. Enterprise teams will be scheduled to present during one of these sessions. Three to five Enterprise teams will present during each session. All team members taking part in the presentation are required to remain in the room throughout the entire session, and may leave only after the session is over and all teams have finished.

All Enterprise teams must register for Design Expo by Monday, February 6th. The information you provide in your registration will be the same information that is listed for your Enterprise team in the Design Expo booklet. Please take the time to review your submission for accuracy and relevant content. For past examples of team submissions, you can peruse the Design Expo booklet from 2016. Please remember to provide a project photo with caption as well as a team photo when you register. In order to be considered for the Design Expo Image Contest, your photo must be taken by a member of your team. Details regarding photo requirements can be found on the registration form. If you do not have a project or team photo when you register you can submit additional images at a later date. If you would like to revise your project overview for the Design Expo booklet at any time, you can do that through this updated overview form. In order to prepare the Design Expo booklet for print, we will need both photos, photo caption, and any updated project overviews no later than Monday, March 13th.
