After Darnishia graduated from Michigan Tech in 1998 she traveled with the Up with People Worldsmart International Leadership Program, worked for Boys and Girls Republic Treatment Facility, and Mosaic Youth Theater of Detroit. She renewed her ties to Michigan Tech in 2005, accepting a position as Regional Admissions Manager in Southeast Michigan. While serving her Alma Mater in her hometown she completed a master’s degree in management from Walsh College and was ordained as a minister. In 2012 she transitioned to Michigan Tech’s International Programs and Services where she currently serves as department director, simultaneously pursuing her second Tech degree, a doctorate in applied cognitive science and human factors.
Darnishia oversees International Programs and Services staff, enforcing IPS policies, procedures and programs. She serves international students through counseling and advising about U.S. government regulations, issues related to cultural adjustments, academic and English language difficulties, financial concerns, campus life, and orientation to life in the U.S. She manages CPT, SEVIS compliance and reinstatement, and coordinates the J-Scholar Program. In addition she assists with F-2 advising, J-1 academic training, and approves reduced course loads.

- The active alumna has served on the Alumni Association Board of Directors since 2008 and is the second woman and first African American to serve as board president. She also serves on the boards of the Keweenaw Alumni Chapter, Lighthouse Faith Center, and is a 2014 inductee into the Michigan Tech Presidential Council of Alumnae.
- The South Range resident enjoys quality time with family and friends. Her favorite pastime is watching a good comedy and she’s always up for an impromptu road trip.
