Apply for admission
If you are not seeking your degree, simply apply for non-degree seeking status before you register. If you are a non-degree seeking student interested in graduate courses please go here. If you are a degree-seeking student, you will need to be formally admitted to the university. Please go to Apply to learn more about applying to Michigan Tech Online Learning.
Some courses are only offered to nondegree / dual enrolled high school students only. These students should contact the Admissions Office directly.
Discuss your course choices with your advisor.
Review the list of online programs available. If you need help choosing courses that will fit into your degree please contact your advisor. Your advisor will make sure that you are staying on track for graduation.
Register for courses
Registration for Michigan Tech Online Learning courses is available online. If you are a currently enrolled student, you can register directly in the Student Information System (BanWeb). When searching for courses, select "online" under the Campus field as shown below.
Get online
When you are admitted to Michigan Tech, you'll be sent a letter which will issue you a user name, your Michigan Tech student M number, your web ISO (Initial Sign On) password, and your email address. These passwords and your e-mail address will be active, and you will need to use them for a variety of purposes prior to your the start of your class. Obtain your course materials
Your course syllabus, which can be found online each term, should list all materials you will need to complete your course. Be sure to get all materials, such as textbooks and test your computer, before the semester starts. You are responsible for obtaining course materials. There is no requirement where materials must be purchased. The Michigan Tech bookstore is located at www.bookstore.mtu.edu
Select a proctor
Your instructor may require you to select a proctor to administer, supervise, and authenticate that exams were taken by you according to the guidelines established by Michigan Tech. All proctors must be approved by your instructor. If you do not have an approved proctor you will not receive exams

Contact your instructor
During the first few days of your course, you should make contact with your instructor through the class website located on Blackboard Learning Management System.

It's time to hit the books! Remember that help is just an email away, so send a message to edtech@mtu.edu if you have questions or need assistance. Be sure to take advantage of the student services available to you online. Most courses operate through the Blackboard Learning system. You will need to use your ISO account to login.
