Research Center Director - Alliance for Computing, Information, and Automation

Michigan Technological University invites applications from enthusiastic individuals with strong research credentials and proven leadership skills for the position of Research Center Director.

The Center will be the research arm of the recently formed Alliance for Computing, Information, and Automation (ACIA), which brings together the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, the Department of Computer Science, and the School of Technology, for the twin purposes of cooperation in academic programs and collaboration in research.

Michigan Tech’s vision for this research center is to become a nationally and internationally recognized leader in the application of mobile, pervasive, and ubiquitous computing to a wide array of engineered systems. We seek to create the scholarly environment that facilitates high‐impact cross‐disciplinary research and innovation in technologies critical to 21st century society and economy, including communication, industrial control, automation, sensing, networking, and cybersecurity. The founding Director will play a seminal role in refining and shaping this vision, consistent with his or her own research interests, experience, and expertise.

The Director for the ACIA Research Center is expected to lead large multi‐institutional collaborations, promote and evolve the overall research goals of ACIA, coordinate related activities, and develop external funding sources for investment in computing at Michigan Tech. The Director will manage multidisciplinary research projects of all sizes and in all stages, from initial inception to proposal preparation, project management, and dissemination of results. Knowledge of, and experience with, the research funding process from both government and industry sources is required. Eligibility for a U.S. security clearance is required. Significant travel may be expected.

The position of Director is an endowed position with significant support from external philanthropic sources. Although the individual may have an affiliation in one or more academic departments, the responsibility of the Director is solely the success of the Center; there are no teaching or other university service requirements.
