These short and long term objectives and activities should result in increased diversity and/or the development of a more inclusive unit and campus climate. Your plan should support Michigan Tech in accomplishing its short and long term diversity goals.

For FacultyPress for stronger support for maternity programs for faculty and students1) Advocate the development of stronger maternity leave policies to enhance faculty recruiting;
2) Encourage the development of lactation stations for nursing mothers
Deans and chairs2010-11  These steps require central administration funding/support , but CSA proposes to urge their adoption.
For StudentsIndentify ways to increase recruitment of international students - undergraduate and especially graduate students.1) The college will seek to enhance existing connections between faculty (physics and chemistry in particular) with universities in India, and perhaps reaching China;
2) support efforts to take advantage of U.S. State Department programs that support and assist the recruitment of international students
Dean and appropriate department chairs; the Humanities Department takes the lead in connecting to State Department programs, but aim is to extend to all CSA departmentsfall 2010-2013Existing travel resources, including research-related travel funds. Dean plans to travel to international venues at appropriate time to cement relationships.HU will lead efforts to secure State Department funds and support for bringing international students to Michigan Tech. 
Increase recruitment efforts aimed at underrepresented minorities1) expand familiarity of admissions recruiters with CSA majors and programs, with the aim of removing the continuing lack of awareness of the range of programs offered within CSA;
2) underwrite participation of a CSA faculty member or chair at every SACNES meeting for the next few years;
3) support attempts to build bridges to tribal colleges, especially in Wisconsin
