Jalyn Says . . .

Why did you choose Michigan Tech?
I fell in love with the campus when I came to Tech for my Summer Youth Program. I also really enjoyed the structure of the class I took as part of the program and the opportunity to build robots, which made me want to study robotics at Tech.

How would you describe your experience at Tech so far?
I’ve made a lot of friends, had good experiences with professors, and have enjoyed my classes.

How would you describe your participation in CDI student organizations?
I wasn’t sure when I first came here if I would meet other GLBTQ students, but participating in Keweenaw Pride has given me a sense of community. I’ve also found community as part of the Black Student Association, which is really nice since there aren’t too many black students on campus. I would encourage new students to join organizations because it’s a great way to stay active and get involved. That way, you aren’t stuck in your room all the time!

Why do you come to CDI?
I come to CDI because I live off campus and CDI is a great place to decompress between classes, do homework or study, and hang out and make friends with people from different places and backgrounds.

What would you say to a prospective student who is thinking about coming to Tech?
It’s easy to live in Houghton; it’s a small town, everything is nearby, and you don’t need a car. Also, the town and campus offer lots of opportunities to participate in unique and exciting cultural experiences such as the Parade of Nations.
