Assistant Director, Center for Diversity and Inclusion

Biography

Hello, my name is Courtney Hohnholt and I am one of the (interim) Assistant Directors at the Center for Diversity and Inclusion.  I am from the tiny town of Joseph, Oregon and grew up exploring the Wallowa Mountains in the summer and sailing in the Gulf of Mexico and the Bahamas with my family in the winter.  Because of this nomadic lifestyle, I was half homeschooled and half traditionally schooled, until 1995 when I joined the United States Air Force.  As a medic in the military, I had the joy and privilege of serving women and their babies in Texas, Mississippi and Misawa, Japan for five years.  Utilizing the G.I. Bill, I received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Community Development with an emphasis in Healthcare from Central Michigan University.  The wanderlust of my youth has not diminished but is resting at this point in my life.

I have a husband, Chris, who works for the School of Forest Resources and Environmental Sciences at Michigan Tech, and three children, Olivia, Naomi and Chloe. We live the lovely town of Chassell and really appreciate the beauty, safety and fresh air of the U.P.  I enjoy reading and discussing books, exploring new beaches, cross country skiing by moonlight, and long, chatty walks with friends and family.

I love seeing others succeed and find that the Center for Diversity and Inclusion is the perfect fit for interacting with and helping students in their pursuit of excellence.  In particular, I work with the Transfer Research Scholars Program (TSRP) students and as a liaison for the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) student organization.  Come visit me for ideas regarding networking, positive communication, interacting well with others and anytime when you need motivation.  You can expect a positive attitude and detailed descriptions about silver linings, as well as empathy and encouragement from me.
