What is it and where can I use it?

The Block Meal Plan is a set number of meals that can be used throughout the semester in the DHH, McNair, or Wadsworth Dining Halls.  This plan is available only to students living in Hillside Place and the meals may be used to treat a guest.

How much does it cost?

The Block Meal Plan is available in 50, 75, or 150 meals.  Students living in Hillside Place must choose one of these plans or one of the Unlimited Plans.  First year students in Hillside Place must have the 150 meal plan.  There are no Dining Dollars or Guest Meals with the Block Meal Plan.  50 meals per semester cost $400 each semester, 75 meals per semester cost $562 each semester, and 150 meals per semester cost $1050 each semester.  

Does it expire?

Yes.  Any meals remaining at the end of the semester will be removed.

Can I get a refund?

No, refunds are not available for the Block Meal Plans.

How do I buy it?

The Block Meal Plan is chosen as part of your room and board package and the charges for it will be added to your student bill.  If you run out of meals during the semester, you can purchase Top Dog Express.

What is it and where can I use it?

An Unlimited Meal Plan is required if you live in the residence halls, but other students can choose to purchase one also.  This plan allows you an "unlimited" number of swipes into one of the Dining Halls - DHH, McNair, or Wadsworth for all--you-can-eat, buffet-style dining.  These plans also come with Dining Dollars and Guest Meal Passes which are explained further in their sections.

If you live in DHH, McNair, or Wadsworth Hall and do not choose a meal plan, you will be assigned the Gold Meal Plan.  We highly recommend you "Go for the Gold" as it is our most popular plan and the best value.

Does it expire?

Yes, the Unlimited Meal Plan is purchased per semester.  At the end of the semester you would need to purchase a new plan.

Can I get a refund or change my plan?

Refunds are not issued for Unlimited Meal Plans.  Changes can be made to your plan until the end of the second week of classes.

How do I buy it?

For students living in one of the residence halls, the meal plan will be included on your bill as room and board.  If you are a student living off-campus or in Daniell Heights, you can purchase one of these plans by going to the Housing and Residential Life Office, room 153W Wadsworth Hall.  The cost of the plan will be added to your student bill.

Dining Dollars

Dining Dollars

What is it and where can I use it?

Dining Dollars are flexible spending dollars included with the Unlimited Meal Plans which allow students who miss a meal in the Dining Halls to eat at times and places that are more convenient to their busy schedules or to pick up a snack during the day.  They can be used like a debit account at the Aftermath Cafe, Campus Cafe, Coaches Corner, Food Court, Fusion, Huski Cafe, Library Cafe, Par & Grill, and most vending machines.

How much does it cost?

A set amount of Dining Dollars comes with each Unlimited Meal Plan.  With the Platinum Plan you get $300 per semester, $150 per semester on the Gold Plan, and $100 with the Silver Plan.  If you are getting low on Dining Dollars you can add more throughout the semester.  

Does it expire? 

Dining Dollars that you get during Fall Semester will carry over to Spring Semester, but they do expire then.  

Can I get a refund?

Dining Dollars included in your Unlimited Meal Plan are not refundable, however any Added Dining Dollars can be refunded at the cardholder's request at the end of the academic year.  There is a $5.00 fee to process these refunds and can be done at the IT Service Center on the 1st floor of the JR Van Pelt and Opie Library.

How do I buy it?

You will automatically get Dining Dollars when you sign up for your Unlimited Meal Plan.  To add more Dining Dollars throughout the semester with a credit card, go online to www.techexpress.mtu.edu.  Cardholders should click on "Cardholders' Online System" and parents or others with the cardholder's M-number should click on "Guests' Online System".  To pay with cash or check, go to the IT Service Center on the 1st floor of the JR Van Pelt and Opie Library.

Guest Meals

What is it and where can I use it?

Guest Meals are included with the Unlimited Meal Plans which allow students to treat a guest to a meal in DHH, McNair, or Wadsworth Dining Hall.  The meal plan holder must accompany the guest into the dining room and swipe their Tech Express ID Card for themselves and their guest.  Students are not able to use their unlimited swipes to bring a guest in and it is against University policy to lend your Tech Express ID Card to anyone.

How much does it cost?

A set number of Guest Meals come with each Unlimited Meal Plan.  With the Platinum Plan you get 16 Guest Meals, 8 with the Gold Plan, and 4 with the Silver Plan.  If you are getting low on Guest Meals you can add more throughout the semester.  Additional Guest Meals cost $7.50 each. 

Does it expire?

Yes, any remaining Guest Meals are removed from your ID Card at the end of each semester, included any Guest Meals you have added.

Can I get a refund?

Guest Meals cannot be refunded.

What is it and where can I use it?

When you add Top Dog Express to your Tech Express ID Card or Department Dining Card, you are purchasing a set number of entries into one of the three Dining Halls - DHH, McNair, or Wadsworth with all-you-can-eat, buffet-style dining.

How much does it cost?

10 meals - $90

25 meals - $218

50 meals - $410

75 meals - $570

Does it expire?

No, Top Dog Express does not ever expire.  It carries over from semester to semester and year to year.

Can I get a refund?

Since the meals never expire, we do not issue refunds on this plan unless you are permanently leaving the University.  For specific refund questions, please stop by the IT Service Center on the 1st floor of the JR Van Pelt and Opie Library.

How do I buy it?

To pay with a credit card, go online to www.techexpress.mtu.edu.  Cardholders should click on "Cardholders' Online System" and parents or others with the cardholder's M-number should click on "Guests' Online System".  To pay with cash or check, go to the IT Service Center on the 1st floor of the JR Van Pelt and Opie Library.  Departments can email it-help@mtu.edu with their Dining Card number (or a request for a new card), University index number to charge, and the number of meals.
