Semester Drawing Closer to the End

Only two weeks left until the end of the Spring Semester and I know that a lot of people are really busy trying to finish up their last remaining projects of the semester. Students working on their Senior Design and other research projects will have the opportunity to showcase their work at the Undergraduate Student Expo (as mentioned in last week’s article).  The showcase will be held on Thursday, April 16 in the Memorial Union Building Ballroom.  All students, faculty, staff and community members are encouraged to come out and see what Michigan Tech students have been up to this year.  For more information about the Undergraduate Expo, check out the Get Involved website

For many, the time leading up to the conclusion of the semester is spent preparing for the important final exams.  It is key that students take the time to prepare adequately and not save all the studying for the weekend before finals (April 24-26).  A full listing of the exams scheduled for this years finals week are posted as a Spring 2009 Final Exam Schedule online.  This is subject to change depending on what the teacher decides with the class.

Of course, some of the greatest resources for receiving help with preparing from exams come from the many different Learning Centers that are on campus.  I always encourage my friends to take advantage of them no matter what, not only because they are free, but also because of the huge help they provided me.  Students can also receive help from their professors, if they are willing to ask for it.  Many professors have a distinct goal in mind, and that is to make sure that the students understand the material. I’ve really enjoyed that part of Michigan Tech’s faculty, because it’s helped me in being more open with my professors and willing to ask for help when needed.

The Counseling and Wellness Services on campus include the willingness to help students with their time management skills.   Their time management – study skills website provides students with a way to effectively plan out the times in which they study, do homework, and other activities.  It’s important to keep in mind that students should study hard, but be ready to take a break to do something fun during those long sessions.  Studying is done differently by every student, I know, but we are all similar in that we can’t stay sane for too long without a little bit of fun now and then.

So as the semester begins to close, I hope that students are taking advantage of both the times when it is key to study and also when it helps to take a break.  I’m looking forward to checking out the Undergraduate Expo this week and am excited to see what my fellow classmates have been up to!  If there are any questions or comments about this article, please email me at my personal email address.  Any suggestions for future articles are welcomed.

Until next week,

Katie
