Pride Week 2009
This week on campus is what is known as Pride Week, which officially started on Sunday, April 5 and will continue until Friday, April 10. The events surrounding Pride Week are put on by Keweenaw Pride (KP), a group of Michigan Tech students, faculty, staff and local community members. Some of the events taking place this week include a free movie, Milk shown on Sunday, a guest speaker John Corvino on Tuesday, and concluding with the Drag Show on Friday. If you’d like to see more, and see what else is on the schedule this week, check out Keweenaw Pride’s homepage.
Keweenawesomefest 3
The 3rd Keweenawesomefest, being put on by WMTU 91.9, will be taking place on April 10 and 11 this year in the McArdle Theatre located on the second floor of Walker Arts and Humanities Center. This is an event where 14 bands will be performing, 7 on each night. The price for tickets is $5/night or $8 for both nights, not a bad deal at all. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday night, with the music starting at 6 p.m. Some of the bands that will be playing include ONE FOR THE TEAM (Minneapolis, MN), LIGHTINING LOVE (Ypsilanti, MI), BVH LIVE (Marquette, MI), LIGHT POLLUTION (Chicago, IL) and many more. There are several ways in which tickets can be purchased: 1) at tables in Fisher Hall and the Memorial Union Building commons up until the concert takes place; 2) at the WMTU office located right next to the station in Wadsworth Hall’s basement level; 3) at the door at the show; and 4) if you’re coming from out of town, tickets can be reserved by emailing keweenawesomefest@gmail.com and the tickets will be held for you. Keweenawesomefest is a great way to get out and enjoy some great music. For more information check out WMTU 91.9’s homepage.
Spring Fling & Undergraduate Expo 2009
Ahh. . . the thoughts of spring are in the air and hopefully the weather will start to warm up in the following weeks. Starting next week, two events will be happening all over campus that are reflections of spring fun on campus and the semester coming to a close. These events are Spring Fling and the Undergraduate Student Expo. The Undergraduate Student Expo will be taking place on Thursday, April 16 in the Memorial Union Building ballrooms. This event is an opportunity for students to highlight their research and allow the community to come in and check it out. Spring Fling will be held on Friday, April 17 from noon to 5 p.m. The theme for this year’s Spring Fling is country/western. Students can get out and enjoy such events as the mechanical bulls, a SACS (Student Activities Comedian Series) comedian, a Johnny Cash Tribute Band and so much more. Student organizations will put out tables with different activities for students to enjoy. For more information on these two events, check out the Undergraduate Expo homepage and the Spring Fling homepage.
