Taking a Stand to Help Disabilities
Before I get into the main part of the article, I just want to express my excitement to all the parents I met this weekend at Preview Day. It was fun getting to meet many of you and talk about ParentNet and how it’s a great resource for parents when their students come to Michigan Tech. I hope everyone that came up for Preview Day had a great weekend and enjoyed learning more about what Michigan Tech has to offer to the students and families. I think the weekend was a great success!
This year’s Standathon will be take place on Friday, April 3. The event is geared towards raising money to help the Bay Cliff Health Camp in Marquette County, MI. Those that participate in the event will stand for 12 straight hours, from 7 p.m. Friday night until 7 a.m. Saturday morning. Through donations and pledges students will have the opportunity to help a great cause. During the night, there will be lots of events taking place for the students to enjoy; including a 9-hole black-light mini golf course, video games, life-size game boards, Vegas night, SACS Comedian, eating contests, laser tag and more! The goal set for this year is to raise $7,000 for Bay Cliff, and to help meet this goal, the members who have planned the Standathon held a Laser Tag tournament back on March 8 to try to increase participation. For more information about the Standathon and events check out the Standathon homepage, events page, and Standathon 2009.
On-Campus Employment Expo
Just as a heads up, there will be an On-Campus Employment Expo taking place next week on April 8-9 held in the Horner Lobby of the Rozsa Center. The expo will start at noon on Wednesday, April 8 and last until 5 p.m. and then starts back up again on Thursday at 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. For those students interested in on-campus employment next year, this is the great source for information about job applications and where employment is available. Some of the jobs that will be available next year include retail sales, ticket sales, theatre setup, dining services and more. If your student is interested in finding employment for next school year, I’d highly encourage them to go to the expo!
