2009 Michigan Tech Preview Day
Coming up on Saturday, March 28 is the annual Preview Day at Michigan Tech. It's a chance for prospective students to visit and explore campus before making their final decisions. This gives students an opportunity to learn more about what Michigan Tech has to offer them and how our students create the future. The Preview Day website holds all the relevant information for learning more and signing up for this event.
Check-In starts on Friday afternoon so that parents and students can get an early start and there will be campus tours available for those interested that evening from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. The main event will begin on Saturday with a University Welcome and the day continues on from there. Information sessions and the Tech Showcase are aimed at giving students and parents the opportunity to learn more about specific programs and ask questions. The Admission's office and Financial Aid office will be open and tours of the residence halls will be given; many departments will be doing tours as well. For a full schedule of events, visit the schedule webpage for more details. Once you check-in, a packet will be given to you with a lot of information about what you’ll need to know for Saturday and where events will be held.
The Preview Day website will also contain directions to campus , a campus map, and lodging information for the local area. It is still possible to register for this event which can be done online or by calling 1-888-688-1885. Its definitely a fun weekend to come up and learn more about Michigan Tech as well as to explore the local community, speak with current students, and enjoy all that Houghton and Keweenaw County has to offer.
Clean Snowmobile Challenge
This year was the 10th anniversary for the Clean Snowmobile Challenge that takes place on Michigan Tech's campus. Put on by the Society of Automotive Engineers, the Snowmobile Challenge ran from March 16 through 21 at the University's Keweenaw Research Center. Michigan Tech's team finished in second place this year with the Yellowstone National Park Award for Second Place! The team also received the PCB Group Award for the quietest snowmobile and the Sensors Inc. Award for lowest in-service emissions with the re-designing of their 2008 Polaris FST Switchback. A full online article highlights all of their accomplishments. The overall victory goes to the University of Wisconsin – Madison. UW-Madison entered a sled in both the Zero-Emissions division and the Internal-Combustion division, in which they took first place in both. This gave them the National Science Foundation Award and the International Snowmobile Manufacturers Association Award.
