Rozsa Center for the Performing Art
Dedicated back in 2000, the Rozsa Center for the Performing Arts has proven to be a great addition to the campus. There are no other buildings like it in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and it has housed many great performers and entertaining acts for all different groups of people. This week’s article is going to discuss the different facets of the Rozsa center and what types of services they provide for the students of Michigan Tech.
This building can seat about 1,101 people to allow for plenty to come out and enjoy the different events that take place throughout the year. Every year the Great Event Series is comprised of different comedians, plays, lectures, music, etc. The website for the Rozsa Center still has last year’s listing for the Great Event Series online to view. As time gets closer to the beginning of the new school year, that website will be updated with next years events. The main goal for many of the shows that are put on is to attract students to come out and enjoy the entertainment as well as have something for the local community to enjoy.
During the summer they are putting on several specials events for anyone in Houghton. These include: Da Yoopers (Friday, June 20), 126th Army Band (Friday, June 27), and Bergonzi String Quartet (Monday, June 30).
It is also possible for student groups to rent spaces from the Rozsa Center when they have special performances or lectures that they would like to put on. This allows for more entertainment for students throughout the school year.
The Rozsa Center provides lots of great entertainment and works with the Student Entertainment Board to bring in even more great acts throughout the school year. The Student Entertainment Board is comprised of all students that work to bring in entertainment that is more geared towards what the students would like to see at Michigan Tech. For example, last year during Winter Carnival they had Colin Mochrie & Brad Sherwood, from “Whose Line is it Anyway”, come up to entertain students and families.
There is so much more that the Rozsa center provides to our campus, and for more information on the Rozsa Center, I highly suggest checking out their online website. Also, I recommend checking out the Rozsa the next time you come to town, as it is a wonderful building and is very unique inside.
