Spring Fling - Oozeball

One Week Left

As many of you already know, this is the last week in which regular classes will be held on Michigan Tech's campus for the spring semester of 2008. Starting next week will be exams campuswide and concluding with graduation on Saturday, May 3. This week's article will wrap up the events that took place last week as well as mention any last minute events for the remainder of this school year.

The Undergraduate Expo was a very big success in my eyes. Being there all day, talking and watching the different research groups present was very exciting. Many people from the community including high school students came out to see what Michigan Tech students have been doing for the past year. What is even more fascinating is that several high school enterprise teams joined this year's Expo, Calumet being among the three. You can read about the project they are doing by going to this online news article.

Spring Fling was a lot of fun. Although the weather wasn't quite as warm as it was last year, the campus was still packed with people enjoying the different festivities and food. Oozeball is still a popular hit for many students to take part in, and I know many of you were watching it via the webcams. The Oozeball event is actually run by the students involved in the Michigan Tech Student Foundation, and it is possible to see photos from these events on their website as well as the other services they provide. Other great aspects of this event were the dunk tank, pie throwing, MTU Idol, great food, and much more! Even though the weather wasn't as warm as many would have liked, the one plus side is that the rain didn't start to come until very late in the afternoon, allowing all of the events to continue on as normal. I look forward to next year's Spring Fling (and will hope that the weather is warmer).

The Michigan Tech Calendar lists some of the events that will be taking place this week. Some include brief distractions for students before they put in a long weekend of studying. I hope that your students are able to focus and study well without too much stress. Also, I would like to mention, that there are several locations for your students to find quiet study areas. These include what I call “study cubbies” in the main portion of the library (Van Pelt) and the Opie portion of the library which is open 24 hours a day. Summer break is around the corner and if we've made it this far, we can definitely see it to the end! Best of luck to all your students during Finals Week and congratulations to all those students who will be graduating next Saturday.

If there are any questions or comments about this article feel free to email me at my personal email address and I'll be happy to respond. As always, ideas for future articles are welcome, especially for the summer months so that I can supply everyone with information they would like to know about Michigan Tech.

Until next week,
