Returning to Tech

Now that Spring Break has come to an end, its time to hit the books and get a start on the homework that will be due within the next seven weeks. The remainder of our time at school is going to be a long hall, but as I mentioned in my last article, there are a lot of fun things going on during those seven weeks to distract students a little. This week’s article is going to focus on what happened during the past week while many students were away.

The town of Houghton seemed a little lacking in its normal day-to-day hustle and bustle this past week as I stayed up in the area. However, on March 8 the Women’s NCAA GLIAC Championship was held at the Student Development Complex on campus and this provided a great entertainment for anyone who was able to make it to the game. The women of Michigan Tech went on to beat the ladies from Ashland 81–53. A short account of information can be found at the Michigan Tech Athletics page as well as more articles discussing further results of the women as they continued on in the tournament. Unfortunately, I can tell you that the girls didn’t make it past the first round of the NCAA Tournament as they lost in a very close game against Missouri S&T on March 14. Speaking as a student of Michigan Tech I’m extremely proud of what the girl’s basketball team accomplished this year and can’t wait to see what happens next year. Great job ladies!!

As mentioned in the last article, the Clean Snowmobile Challenge was also going on all week and more information about this event can be found at the SAE Clean Snowmobile website. Results show that the team from Clarkson University won the Internal Combustion division, University of Madison taking first in the Zero Emissions division, and Michigan Tech placed fourth in the Internal Combustion division. This news article talks about the individual awards a little bit more.

As many of you know, this upcoming weekend is Easter Sunday. I’ve noticed many seeking rides for their children to get home to celebrate this day with family, and the biggest suggestion I will make, as many have done before me, is the Barkboard Ride Board. Keep in mind that your child has to log in to use this as it is a forum and their username is how they are identified when making postings. Otherwise they can also check out the ride boards set up in each Residence Hall and the Memorial Union Building. I hope that everyone looking for a ride is able to find one.

If you have any questions or comments about this article feel free to email me at my personal email address. As always, suggestions for further articles are welcomed. Looking ahead, you can expect my next article to discuss the upcoming event of Preview Day.

Until next week,

Katie
