IT Oxygen Enterprise

Enterprise teams function like virtual companies. They are student led and managed. This photo was taken at a meeting of the IT Oxygen: Information Technology enterprise.

A stressful, yet important week

This week marks the beginning of Week 8. Somehow, half of the semester is already gone. As this is the week before spring break, many students are feeling a good amount of pressure and stress from their classes. Many students, me included, have multiple exams and projects coming due before break starts. Unfortunately, some students can’t get past the fact that break starts this Saturday, so make sure you wish your students luck and tell them to remain focused for just a few more days. There are also a number of important happenings this week.

Enterprise Fair
The enterprise recruitment fair is being held on Tuesday, March 6, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. in the MUB Ballroom. The enterprise fair is a great way for students to start investigating the plethora of teams on campus. There is an enterprise for almost every major and area of interest. Students can check out the enterprise website for more details as well. I have been in the Blue Marble enterprise for three years now and don’t regret my decision for a second. I will be writing in depth articles on the senior design and enterprise programs later in the semester.

Mid-Term Grades
For freshman students only, midterm grades are available Monday, March 5. Students can access their grades through Banweb by signing in and going to their student records. If your student is struggling in a class and wondering if they should drop it, these midterm grades might help them decided. Friday, March 9, is the last day to drop semester courses with a grade of “W”.

Term B Starts
This week also starts the beginning of the Term B classes. This mostly deals with the physical education classes, since they usually only run one term. A few of the math classes also work on terms. Remind your students to check their schedules to make sure they don’t miss the new classes. After getting a routine set up for seven weeks, it is easy to forget about these classes.

Fall 2007 Registration
I know it is still pretty early in the year, but the schedule of classes for fall 2007 is now online. It is never too early for a student to start planning out their schedule. To find the schedule, go to the admin website and then click “schedule of classes.” By figuring out a tentative schedule early, students can get into their advisors without long waits if they have questions.

If there are ever any topics that you feel should be addressed, please send me a personal email and I will try my best to include that in my future articles.

Until next week,
