In ice bowling, students are both the bowlers and the bowling ball. In this photo the bowlers are ready to "roll" their ball down the lane, assisted by team members who weigh their legs down to keep them from traveling with the ball.
Winter Carnival begins
Winter Carnival is just over a week away and many parents and friends are coming up to see the Michigan Tech campus. Although the all-nighter isn’t for another week, Winter Carnival activities are happening as early as this week. For Circle K, we have our first event on Tuesday, January 30. There are pictures of many of the special events from last year located here. A list of the special activities include:

The special events take place all over campus and are split into divisions so everyone has a chance to compete. The divisions are: fraternities, sororities, student organizations, residence halls, and community groups. The events that take place outside: skiing, snowshoeing, volleyball and tug-o-war are held up on the fields behind the Student Development Complex. The queen coronation and stage revue take place in the Rozsa Center and tickets can be purchased online. The Dee Stadium in downtown Houghton plays host to the ice bowling and broomball. The event that is the farthest away is the curling, which takes place up the hill in the town of Calumet.
Hopefully, many of you will be able to catch a glimpse of some of the special events going on, since they will last through Friday, February 9. Students have a lot of fun with the events and really enjoy the time away from classes and building the statues. To wrap up Winter Carnival, there is a large fireworks display and sno-ball dance Saturday night.
Next week I will discuss the statues in detail and try to get some thoughts from my friends working on the large, month-long statues.
If there are ever any topics that you feel should be addressed, please send me a personal email and I will try my best to include that in my future articles.
Until next week,
