Jeremy Stocks

You're looking at a guy ready for some broomball action. It's one of my passions and probably a sport your student will enthusiastically talk about. Next week I'll tell you why.

Let me introduce myself

Hello and Happy New Year everyone. My name is Jeremy Stocks and I will be the new ParentNet writer for this year. The previous writer, Nikki, will be greatly missed; though there comes a time when one must graduate and start their career. Knowing Nikki personally, I can only hope to be as good of a writer as she was for this list.

For my first article, I would like to formally introduce myself. I am a fourth year electrical engineer in the photonics concentration. I am also pursuing a minor in psychology. I am from a small town in southeast Michigan, Adrian. I started my education at Michigan Tech in the fall of 2003 and have been here for three and a half years now. Looking back, I have no idea where that time has gone.

This is my fourth year of being subscribed to the ParentNet list. For the last three years or so, I have tried to respond to as many questions and concerns as I could, so some of you might recognize my name already.

Circle K ClubYou'll spot both Nikki and I in the back row. I'm second from the left and Nikki is fourth from the left.

Outside of classes, I try to stay active in several things. I am the current Vice President of MTU Circle K. This is actually where I first met Nikki, as she was the president last year. I have also been involved greatly with the Enterprise program here at Tech. I have been a member of the Blue Marble Security Enterprise for going on three years now. Through it, I have gained a wealth of knowledge that isn’t taught in the classroom, made a lot of new friends, and have developed public speaking skills that I never knew I had. Enterprise may only be a one or two credit class, but as almost any student in it will tell you, it is the most time consuming credit on their schedule.

My time in the winter is also taken up by a little more physical activity, that’s right, broomball. I played as a freshman, and then decided to form my own team when it came around in my second year. I have been lucky enough to keep a majority of the people and we are going into our third year of playing together. My next article will be about broomball, since that is always an area of interest and concern among many parents, especially once they start hearing stories from their students.

I thank you for your time and look forward to this new year. If there are ever any topics that you feel should be addressed, please send me a personal email and I will try my best to include that in my future articles.
