Advising Meetings and Preview Day
It's official—only five weeks of classes left! Whether you’re a parent for a student who is planning on coming here or you are a parent of student who already attends MTU, I have two important things to share with you this week to make sure your student is on track.
Advising Meetings
If your student is a first-year student, they should have already (or should soon!) had a first-year student advising meeting with their department advisor. There have been table tents and posters located all over campus for your student to look up their advising information. Meeting times and locations vary with the major of your student. Advising meetings started as early as in February, and some go as late as this week.
It is required that all first-year students attend these advising meetings. Advising meetings are usually one-on-one appointments made with your students’ department advisor. The meetings are to help your student find out information about registering for fall classes, which takes place next week. So double check with your student to make sure they have met with their advisor, to make sure they’re on track.
Preview Day
Preview Day is this Saturday! Preview Day is for all interested high school seniors who may have already visited Tech, but want to take one last visit before making their decision to attend. Of course perspective students and their families are welcome to attend even if they haven’t visited us before, but Preview Day is designed for families to come and visit MTU and see what they have to offer, or to see a preview, in other words. Preview Day is also the perfect event to make sure that your perspective student is on track with making their college decision. If your student is a senior in high school, they should have already submitted their applications to their top choice schools. Hopefully they have already heard positive feedback as well!
I have had great experiences with Preview Day. I was a tour guide and volunteer assistant at last year’s Preview Day. I really enjoyed meeting all the different families and perspective students that came to visit. I also gave a presentation with a few other students to talk about the multitude of student organizations that we have on campus.
This year I will also be helping out with Preview Day again. On Saturday morning I will help lead a discussion with parents on the “truth” about MTU. If you as parents have any questions, we will give you the honest answer.
If you would like more information on Preview Day, please visit: http://www.mtu.edu/previewday. If you are planning on attending Preview Day, have a safe drive, and I look forward to seeing you and possibly meeting you!
Until next week,
