The William G. Jackson Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) offers individualized advice and assistance to Michigan Tech instructors and GTA's seeking to improve areas of their instruction. The CTL offers the following assistance:

Walk-In Hours for Canvas Assistance

CTL eLearning personnel, including instructional design staff and student consultants, are available during walk-in hours to help instructors design and implement their instructional plans using Canvas, the university's learning management system.

Consultations by Appointment 

The following private and confidential services are available for instructors and GTAs upon request. Please email Mike Meyer at to make arrangements. Upon the request of the instructor or GTA, the CTL will forward written acknowledgement that these services are being utilized to the department chair or instructional supervisor. 

Review of Student Rating of Instruction Responses

Upon request, the Center Director will review students' responses to instruction and make suggestions regarding techniques for improvement.

Implementation of Blended Learning Techniques

The Center Director or eLearning staff (where applicable) will provide support to instructors who seek assistance with the planning and implementation of blended learning techniques and technologies to meet her/his learning goals.

Observation or Recording Review of Instruction

The Center Director will consult with Michigan Tech instructors and GTAs upon request to help them improve their instruction. As part of this consultation, the Center Director may observe and/or view recordings of class sessions upon request. Any recordings remain the property of the instructor. Upon the request of the instructor or GTA, reports of classroom visitations and/or recording reviews of teaching will be forwarded to the department chair or instructional supervisor.
